Dr Fikile Ngcingwana, originally hailing from the picturesque small town of Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape, embodies a deep-rooted commitment to improving the lives of children with neurological disorders. Her journey into medicine began against the backdrop of Mahamane J.S.S., where her childhood dreams took shape and her passion for paediatric care ignited.
Driven by a desire to make a difference, Dr Ngcingwana embarked on her medical education at the esteemed Walter Sisulu University Medical School, earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2008. Her early experiences, coupled with a fervent dedication to paediatrics, propelled her towards specialisation in paediatric neurology.
Following her undergraduate studies, Dr Ngcingwana pursued postgraduate training, completing her residency at the College of Medicine of South Africa in Cape Town, where she obtained her Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians in 2018. Her journey continued with a residency at the Red Cross Children's Hospital, affiliated with the University of Cape Town, solidifying her expertise in paediatric neurology.
Dr Ngcingwana’s professional journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence and compassionate patient care. From her formative years as a medical intern at Nelson Mandela Hospital to her tenure as a paediatrician at Frontier Hospital in Queenstown, she honed her skills and expanded her knowledge base.
As a devoted mother of three beautiful children, Dr Ngcingwana brings a unique perspective to her practice, understanding the importance of holistic care and the profound impact neurological disorders can have on families.
Her dedication extends beyond clinical practice, with notable contributions to research, including her ongoing MPhil project exploring the role of Ethno-pharmacology in seizure control in African countries. Dr Ngcingwana’s research endeavours underscore her commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving outcomes for paediatric patients.
Throughout her career, Dr Ngcingwana has been an active participant in professional associations, serving as the African Ambassador for the International Child Neurology Congress (ICNA) and a member of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and the Paediatric Neurology and Development Association in South Africa.
Dr Ngcingwana’s expertise in diagnosing and treating paediatric neurological disorders, coupled with her collaborative approach and dedication to patient education, make her a beacon in the field of Paediatric Neurology. Her tireless advocacy for children with neurological challenges reflects her belief in the inherent dignity and potential of every young patient she encounters.
